How SquareShift delivered it.

The challenge

The client — one of the oldest department store chains in the US, running an e-commerce platform used nearly 50 million times a month — had already deployed Elasticsearch for centralized log management. But the system still couldn’t see into large parts of its legacy infrastructure, because Elastic’s out-of-the-box integrations didn’t cover it.

Outdated protocols like SNMP, plus storage and virtualization platforms that predated the client’s Elastic rollout, produced formats the stack couldn’t natively ingest — leaving real blind spots in the observability picture.

What we delivered

SquareShift built custom integrations and parsers to close those gaps, normalizing legacy SNMP traps into the Elastic Common Schema (ECS) so old and new data could sit side by side. A centralized Logstash fleet now manages ingestion pipelines across the full mix of sources.

The team added support for Pure Storage and VMware vCenter — two systems with no native Elastic integration — bringing them into the same observability layer as everything else.

The retailer now has end-to-end observability across its full stack, legacy and modern alike, covering close to 50 million monthly e-commerce visits with one correlated view instead of blind spots around older infrastructure.

Deep protocol expertise, not a platform swap, closed the gap — the client kept its existing Elastic investment and extended it, rather than replacing tooling to get full-stack coverage.
